is a congregation which has worshipped and served God in a quiet, peaceful community in northeast Titus County for over 100 years. Although the membership is made up primarily of the folks in the neighborhood of the church buildings, several families drive in from more distant locations.
The church strives to have a vision for the world through mission giving and active participation in local, state, national and international fellowship.
New members are welcome to join the membership by one of the following
three methods:
Baptism: Mt. Sylvia
will gladly receive any person who professes a conversion experience of
trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior. After
baptism, that person is received into full fellowship with the church.
Promise of a Letter: Mt. Sylvia gladly receives members who currently hold active membership in another church of like faith and practice. Upon promise that written evidence of their active membership can be obtained, the candidate for membership may be received as a member pending receipt of their letter.
Statement: If written evidence of current membership is unavailable, members can be received, based on their personal testimony, that they desire membership in Mt. Sylvia Church and were baptised by a church of like faith and practice.
Goals and Programs
Every effort is made to provide a Sunday School program to meet
the age and maturity levels of all children, young people and adults who
would want to attend. At any given time, some classes may not be
active, but as students are available, a teacher and class will also be
maintained.
Currently, the youth program which meets regularly during the public school year on Wednesday evening, includes Bible Clubs for the children and an active Teen Program for the teenagers.
The First Sunday experience is a noon potluck buffet intended to provide an opportunity for the church family and visitors to share fellowship and become better acquainted.
An active Ladies Auxiliary meets monthly for Bible study and fellowship. They are also active in promoting, sponsoring and/or doing projects that benefit the church.
Preaching the Gospel is our bottom line!
